Gryphon lacrosse women drop two to division foes

ST. CATHARINES – After opening their OUA women’s lacrosse season with a pair of wins in their lone games to be played in Guelph this season, the Guelph Gryphons dropped a pair of games Sunday at the Brock University Alumni Field.

The Gryphs were dropped 11-7 by the Laurier Golden Hawks and 22-6 by the Western Mustangs.

In other games West Division games Sunday, Laurier doubled the Brock Badgers 12-6, Western dumped the McMaster Marauders 23-2 and the Marauders got by Brock 13-9.

Western leads the West Division at 4-0 while Laurier’s at 3-1, the Gryphs are at 2-2, McMaster’s at 1-3 and Brock trails at 0-4.

Queen’s Gaels top the East Division at 4-0 and are followed by the Trent Excalibur at 3-1, Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 1-3 and Toronto Varsity Blues at 0-4.

The Gryphs get a weekend off before finishing off the West Division portion of their schedule at Western Mustangs Field in London Sept. 30 when they’re to play Brock at 10 a.m. and Western at 1 p.m.

All of their regular-season play in October will be against East Division teams. They’re to play Ontario Tech and Toronto Oct. 15 in Oshawa and Queen’s and Trent Oct. 22 in North Bay.

The OUA championship tournament is set for Oct. 27 to 29 at Tindall Field on the Queen’s campus in Kingston.
