Gryphon lacrosse women lose twice to finish regular season

PETERBOROUGH – The Guelph Gryphons completed their OUA women’s lacrosse league regular season with a pair of losses in play Sunday at Justin Chiu Stadium.

The Gryphs were dropped 18-1 by the Queen’s Gaels and downed 12-7 by the Trent Excalibur to complete their regular season on a five-game losing streak.

Guelph finishes third in the West Division at 3-7. They were tied with the McMaster Marauders, but the Gryphs win the tiebreaker due to a 12-7 victory over the Marauders in their season opener Sept. 10.

Western Mustangs are first in the West at 9-1, while Laurier Golden Hawks finish at 6-4 and Brock Badgers finish at 1-9.

Queen’s are first in the East Division at 11-0 and are followed by Trent at 7-4, Toronto Varsity Blues at 5-6 and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 2-9.

The OUA championship tournament is set for Oct. 27 to 29 on Tindall Field on the Queen’s campus in Kingston. The Gryphs are to play pool play games Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Western and Saturday at 11:45 a.m. against McMaster.

Semifinals are set for Sunday at 9 a.m. and the gold-medal game is to go Sunday at 5:45 p.m.
