Gryphon lacrosse women take two on home field

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons opened their OUA women’s lacrosse season with a pair of victories Sunday at Varsity Field.

The Gryphs took their season opener 12-7 over the McMaster Marauders before claiming a 12-9 win over the Brock Badgers in their second match five hours later.

Guelph is looking to improve on a 7-9 regular-season record. They completed their season as the fourth-place finishers in the league’s championship tournament.

In other games at Varsity Field, the Western Mustangs dropped Brock 20-1 and doubled Laurier Golden Hawks 12-6 and Laurier beat McMaster 15-6.

The five West Division teams are to gather again Sunday at Brock’s Alumni Field in St. Catharines. The Gryphs are to play Laurier at 10:15 a.m. and Western at 3:30 p.m.
