Gryphon soccer men blanked by Laurier Golden Hawks

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered a pair of second-half goals as they were downed 2-0 by the Laurier Golden Hawks in OUA men’s soccer play Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

For the Gryphs, the loss was their second in three games.

Tristan Greenidge in the 54th minute and Sam Ghouli in the 77th minute scored the goals for Laurier while Matthew Andree had an assist.

The teams took six shots apiece with Laurier getting five of them on target, but the Gryphs didn’t get any shots on target.

Laurier took five corner kicks, one more than Guelph, and the Golden Hawks were called for eight fouls, two more than the Gryphs.

The Gryphs were shown the yellow card three times while it was shown to a Laurier player once.

Carter Robart was in net for the Gryphs while David Carano was credited with the clean sheet for Laurier.

The Gryphs are fifth in the OUA West at 5-4-1 and Laurier was sixth at 4-5-1. Top six in the division qualify for the playoffs.

The Gryphs are to complete their regular season with a pair of home games against the Algoma Thunderbirds (0-6-4). They’re to battle Friday at 8:15 p.m. and Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
