Gryphon soccer men edge York with lone goal of game

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons rode a goal in the final 10 minutes of the first half to a 1-0 victory over the York Lions in OUA men’s soccer play Friday night at the York Lions Stadium.

Dante Ruddock scored the game’s lone goal while Peyton Ferdinand was credited with an assist.

Carter Robart had the clean sheet for the Gryphs.

The teams took 13 shots apiece with York getting 11 of their shots in the second half. The Gryphs took three corner kicks to one for York.

Guelph was also called for seven fouls, one more than the Lions.

The win lifts Guelph’s record to 5-3-1.

The Gryphs are to play the Laurier Golden Hawks Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Waterloo.
