Gryphon soccer men toppled by second-half goals

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered a pair of goals in the second half as they were edged 2-1 by the Brock Badgers in OUA men’s soccer play Saturday at Brock’s Alumni Field.

The loss put an end to Guelph’s three-game unbeaten streak that included back-to-back 5-1 wins over the Waterloo Warriors.

Damian Truong opened the scoring for the Gryphs in the 11th minute. Gray Yates assisted on the goal.

The Badgers pulled even in the 51st minute on a goal by Marc Iantomasi, assisted by Conrad Czarnecki, before winning on a goal by Luke Ragagnin in the 85th minute.

The Gryphs outshot the Badgers 8-6 overall and 5-4 in shots on target.

Brock took three of the four corner kicks taken in the game while the Gryphs were called for 12 fouls, five more than Brock.

Carter Robart was in goal for the Gryphs while Brock used Taylor Miskolczi in net.

The result leaves Brock fourth in the West Division at 3-2-0 and Guelph sixth at 2-2-1.

The Gryphs are to play a home-and-home set with the Windsor Lancers. They’re to play Friday at 8:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Windsor’s Alumni Stadium.

Windsor is seventh in the West at 0-1-4.
