Gryphon soccer women blanked by McMaster

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered a pair of goals in each half as they suffered a 4-0 loss to the McMaster Marauders in OUA women’s soccer play Saturday at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium.

The loss put an end to the six-game unbeaten streak for the Gryphs and it was the first time they’d been shut out since their season-opening 1-0 loss to the Western Mustangs in London.

Emilie Calabrese scored two of the goals for McMaster while Bryanna Caldwell and Alyssa Wheeler each had one goal. Ignacia Jimenez assisted on two of the goals while single assists went to Ravina Braich and Wheeler.

Keira Doetzel was in net for the Gryphs while Ali Muddie was in net for McMaster.

The Marauders outshot the Gryphs 8-4 in each half and McMaster took eight of the game’s 11 corner kicks. The Gryphs were whistled for five of the game’s seven fouls.

The win pushes McMaster to the top of the West Division standings at 7-1-2 while Western is second at 7-1-1 and the Gryphs are third at 5-2-1.

The Gryphs are to play the York Lions (seventh in West at 2-4-3) at York’s Lions Stadium Friday at 6 p.m. and host the Laurier Golden Hawks (fifth in West at 3-3-2) Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
