Gryphon soccer women post another 2-0 victory

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons sure are liking those 2-0 scores.

The Gryphs claimed their third consecutive 2-0 win in OUA women’s soccer play as they blanked the Brock Badgers at Brock’s Alumni Field Saturday.

Guelph scored once in each half for the win.

Olivia Brown opened the scoring in the 15th minute while Sydney Vanderhoef added the other goal in the 69th minute.

Sabrina Spano had the clean sheet in net for the Gryphs as she had four saves. Shaelyn Mitchell had five saves for Brock.

Guelph outshot Brock 13-8 overall and 7-4 in shots on net.

The Gryphs took five of the game’s six corner kicks and were also whistled for 12 fouls – six in each half – while Brock was called for nine fouls.

Guelph is tied for third in the West Division with the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers, each with 3-1-1 records. Brock is eighth at 0-3-2.

The Gryphs and Windsor are to clash twice next weekend as they’re to battle Friday at 6 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Windsor’s Alumni Stadium.
