Gryphon softball women take two from Carleton

KARS – The Guelph Gryphons opened their Ontario University Softball season with a pair of one-sided victories over the Carleton Ravens Friday night at the Kars Community Recreation Centre on the banks of the Rideau River south of Ottawa.

The Gryphons downed the Ravens 13-1 in the opener of the doubleheader and they took the nightcap 11-0.

While the Gryphs were 2-18 last season, Carleton was 0-20.

The Gryphs are to play a doubleheader today (Sept. 9) against the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Carp Fairgrounds starting at 1 p.m.

The Gee-Gees swept a doubleheader from the Laurier Golden Hawks at Carp Friday, winning 12-7 and 7-2.

Ottawa was 9-9 last year.

The Gryphs have a pair of home doubleheaders next weekend as they’re to host the Western Mustangs Sept. 15 starting at 7 p.m. and the Windsor Lancers Sept. 16 starting at 2 p.m. Gryphon home games are to be played on the main softball diamond on the University of Guelph campus. That’s the one beside Varsity Field.
