Gryphon softball women win two on busy weekend
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons captured a pair of wins on a busy weekend in Ontario University Softball play.
The Gryphs played three doubleheaders on consecutive days.
Friday on the U of G diamond, the Gryphs split with the Waterloo Warriors. Waterloo took the opener 5-1 and the Gryphs responded with an 11-6 win in the second game.
Saturday in Waterloo, the Gryphs defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 9-6 in the opening game, but fell 14-7 in the second game.
Back on their home diamond Sunday, the Gryphs dropped a pair of games to Laurier, losing 8-3 and 7-5.
The results leave the Gryphs sixth in the West Division at 7-11. Western Mustangs lead at 18-0 and are followed by the Windsor Lancers at 9-5, Brock Badgers at 10-6, Laurier at 11-7, Waterloo at 7-9, the Gryphs at 7-11 and McMaster Marauders at 2-18.
The Gryphs are to play a doubleheader against the Windsor Lancers Friday at Windsor’s Mic Mac Park. First game is to start at 7 p.m.
