Gryphon volleyball men come back to edge Brock

ST. CATHARINES – The Guelph Gryphons dropped the first two sets of their OUA men’s volleyball preseason match with the Brock Badgers before rebounding for a 3-2 victory at Brock’s Bob Davis Gymnasium.

The Gryphs won the match 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-8.

Guelph had 50 kills, seven aces, 21 blocks, 45 assists and 23 digs in the match while Brock had 56 kills, six aces, eight blocks, 54 assists and 29 digs.

Jacob Schweyer had 18 kills, two aces and six blocks for the Gryphs while Cameron Chadwick had 13 kills and two aces. Noah Romero Marshall had six kills, an ace and five blocks while Joshua Glasbergen and Nathan Peters each had three blocks and an ace, Thomas Pugsley had 34 assists, three digs and two blocks, Jack Richards had seven assists, Daniel Pickett had three assists and five digs and Blake Brand had eight digs and two blocks.

Kylar Code had 17 kills and two blocks for Brock while Liam Strong had two aces, Grant Reddon had 43 assists, Sauli Lianga had two blocks and 10 digs and Jacob Ferland also had two blocks.

The Gryphs are 5-3 in their preseason that they’ll finish Friday with a match against the Western Mustangs Friday at 7 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Gryphs are to open their regular season with matches against the Waterloo Warriors Nov. 3 and 4 at Waterloo’s Carl Totzke Court.
