WATERLOO – After dropping the opening set of their OUA men’s volleyball regular season, the Guelph Gryphons rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Friday night on Waterloo’s Carl Totzke Court.

The Gryphs had 50 kills, four aces, 15 blocks, 47 assists and 33 digs in the match with a .356 kill percentage. Waterloo had 44 kills, four aces, six blocks, 44 assists and 37 digs and performed at a.142 kill percentage.

The two teams are to battle again Saturday at 4 p.m. in Waterloo.

Last season, the Gryphs won their opening match against the Nipissing Lakers on their own court, but dropped a rematch with the Lakers the following day for their only loss in their first seven matches. It was the only time all season the Gryphs won the opening match and lost their second when they played the same team on consecutive days.

The Gryphs are to host Nipissing in their home-opening twin play Nov. 10 and 11 at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Game time is 8 p.m. both days. Those matches are to be the first matches of the regular season for the Lakers.
