Gryphon volleyball men take two from Nipissing

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons struck for a pair of 3-1 wins over the Nipissing Lakers in OUA men’s volleyball play on the weekend at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Gryphs won 3-1 both Friday and Saturday nights.

The wins give the Gryphs four victories in their regular season, all by 3-1 scores.

Friday, Guelph won 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23.

Cameron Chadwick had eight kills, two aces and seven digs for the Gryphs while Jonathan Pickett had 13 kills and five aces, Jacob Schweyer had 10 kills and three blocks, Thomas Pugsley had 34 assists and three digs, Daniel Pickett had three assists and nine digs, Jacob Bailey had three blocks and Joshua Glasbergen had two blocks.

Tyrus Cuculick had 12 kills for Nipissing while Trent O’Brien had four aces, Jack Svendsen had 37 assists and Taydon Shantz had nine digs.

Saturday, the Gryphs won 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.

Chadwick had eight kills, two aces, an assist and eight digs for Guelph while Alexander Odle had 14 kills, two blocks and eight digs, Pugsley had an ace, 39 assists and nine digs, Jonathan Pickett had 19 kills and five blocks, Jack Richards had an ace and six assists and Glasbergen had five blocks.

Justice Smith and Cuculick had 13 kills apiece for Nipissing while O’Brien had three aces and four blocks and Svendsen had 38 assists and eight digs.

The Gryphs had a total of 100 kills in the two games along with 17 aces, 19 blocks, 88 assists, 78 digs, 39 errors and a .275 kill percentage.

Nipissing had 86kills in the two games along with 14 aces, 13 blocks, 76 assists, 66 digs, 35 errors and a .236 kill percentage.

Next on the schedule for the Gryphs (4-0) are games Friday and Saturday games at 8 p.m. against the Trent Excalibur (0-2) at the Trent Athletics Centre.
