Gryphon volleyball men turn in repeat performance at Waterloo

WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons repeated their opening-game performance from the night before as they downed the Waterloo Warriors 3-1 in OUA men’s volleyball play Saturday on Waterloo’s Carl Totzke Court.

The Gryphs won 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19.

Jonathan Pickett had 16 kills and 12 digs for the Gryphs while Jacob Schweyer had 15 kills, an ace and four  blocks while Cameron Chadwick had seven kills and three assists. Jacob Basiley had five saves while Joshua Glasbergen had four blocks and an ace, Thomas Pugsley had 41 assists and 12 digs and Daniel Pickett had 10 digs.

Noel Campfens had 11 kills and three aces for Waterloo while Owen Paddock Thiessen had 11 kills, Fehin Awobodu had three aces, A.J. Nichols had four blocks, Logan Wenzel had 26 assists and Will McIntyre had 11 digs.

The Gryphs had 51 kills, two aces, 11 blocks, 50 assists and 49 digs and had a kill percentage of .366.

Waterloo had 37 kills, 11 aces, four blocks, 33 assists and 33 digs and had a kill percentage of .119.

The Gryphs are to have a pair of home games against the Nipissing Lakers next weekend. They’re to play both Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. The matches are to be the season openers for Nipissing.
