Gryphon volleyball women swept by McMaster

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons were swept 3-0 by the McMaster Marauders in OUA women’s volleyball play Friday night at McMaster’s Burridge Gymnasium.

The loss was the seventh for the Gryphs in as many league games this season.

The Marauders prevailed 25-22, 25-17, 25-18.

McMaster won most of the statistical battles — 47-32 in kills, 4-1 in aces, 8-5 in blocks and 43-32 in assists. Both teams had 74 digs.

Lisa Wedel had eight kills and two blocks for the Gryphs while Sophie Fernback had seven kills and an ace. Jessica Chungs had five kills and 15 digs while Alex Curran had 26 assists and 10 digs and Ashley Vang had three assists and 28 digs.

Sullie Sundara had 13 kills, an ace, an assist and 22 digs for McMaster while Emma McKinnon had 12 kills, two aces and three blocks. Jessie Nairn had nine kills and nine digs, Ellie Hatashita had four blocks, Chayse Victoria had 32 assists and Hayley Brookes had 23 digs.

The win leaves McMaster at 7-3.

The two teams are to meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre.

That match will be the first of three home matches to complete Guelph’s season. They’re also to host the Western Mustangs Thursday at 6 p.m. and the Windsor Lancers March 6 at 1 p.m.
