Gryphon volleyball women swept by TMU Bold

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons were blanked 4-0 by the Toronto Metropolitan Bold in their OUA women’s volleyball preseason opener Friday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Bold won 25-21, 25-15, 25-22, 25-18.

TMU had 53 kills, six aces, seven blocks, 42 assists and 51 digs in the match while the Gryphs had 47 kills, three aces, five blocks, 42 assists and 45 digs.

Briar Crerar had 11 kills and a block for the Gryphs while Sophia Kalbfleisch had seven digs and an ace. Sarah McNames had seven kills while Madison Shular had six kills, Sophie Sommerfeldt had 13 assists, Nikina Bear-Lowen had an ace and a block, Alexa Shields had an ace and 24 assists, Samantha Ingleton had a block, Sydney Simonson had two assists and five digs and Sophie Fernback had five digs.

Category leaders for TMU were Britney Veltman with 10 kills, Jia Lonardi with four aces, Lauren Veltman with three blocks, Megan Kesner with 19 assists and Mary Rioflorido with 13 digs.

Next up for the Gryphs is the Gee-Gees Preseason Classic in Ottawa next weekend. They’re to play the host Gee-Gees and Dalhousie Tigers Friday, Toronto Varsity Blues and UQAM Citadins Saturday and another opponent in a playoff match Sunday.
