Gryphon women sweep by RMC Paladins again

KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons swept the RMC Paladins for the second time in less than 24 hours as they won 3-0 in OUA women’s volleyball play Saturday afternoon at RMC’s SAM Gymnasium.

The Gryphs took the match 25-12, 25-9, 25-23 for their 12th consecutive victory over the Paladins.

Alexa Shields had two aces, 22 assists and five digs for the Gryphs while Mia Miskovic had seven kills, two aces and a block and Leah Stewart had 10 kills and seven digs. Briar Crerar collected nine kills and four digs while Nikina Bear-Lowen had five kills, a block and an assist, Payton King had six digs, Sarah McNames had three aces and Sophie Sommerfeldt had two assists.

Elisa Markentin had five kills, two aces and six digs for RMC while Sara Grosse had two blocks and Emilie Boileau had 11 assists.

The Gryphs had 38 kills, 12 aces, two blocks, 26 assists, 26 digs and a .253 kill percentage while RMC had 14 kills, four aces, two blocks, 14 assists, 20 digs and a .127 kill percentage.

Guelph is third in the OUA at 9-2 while RMC is at 0-10.

The Gryphs are to start a three-game homestand when they’re to host the Toronto Varsity Blues, seventh at 6-6, Friday at 6 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Gryphs are also to host the Windsor Lancers, 11th at 2-8, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. and Jan. 27 at 4 p.m.
