Gryphon women sweep by RMC Paladins

KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons posted their third victory of 2024 as they swept the winless RMC Paladins 3-0 in OUA women’s volleyball play Friday at RMC’s SAM Gymnasium.

While the Gryphs improved to 8-2, good for third in the league, the Paladins fell to 0-9. It was Guelph’s 11th consecutive win over RMC, the Paladins last winning Nov. 12, 2011, when they edged the Gryphs 3-2 on the U of G campus when the Gryphs used the west gymnasium as their home court prior to the building of the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

Friday, the Gryphs won 25-16, 25-11, 25-12.

Sophia Kalbfleisch had nine kills, two aces and five digs for the Gryphs while Sarah McNames had eight kills and a block and Samantha Ingleton had five kills. Briar Crerar had two aces and five digs while Alexa Shields had two aces and a block, Sophie Sommerfeldt had a block and 11 assists and Payton King had five digs.

Emilie Boileau had six assists and nine digs for RMC while Elisa Markentin had four kills and a block, Lilie Demelo had nine digs, Telessa Salmikivi had an ace and a block, Ashley Raymond had an ace and Eve Smith had a block.

The Gryphs had 35 kills, 10 aces, three blocks, 29 assists, 34 digs and a .211 kill percentage and RMC had 13 kills, two aces, three blocks, 12 assists, 30 digs and a .012 kill percentage.

The Gryphs and Paladins are to meet again Saturday at RMC starting at 2 p.m.
