Gryphons net three in third to top Windsor

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons left their scoring until the third period when they hit for three goals to down the Windsor Lancers 3-1 in OUA women’s hockey league play Friday at the Gryphon Centre.

Windsor opened the scoring on an unassisted power-play marker by Jaden Cherry midway through the period.

The Gryphs received third-period goals from Hannah Tait at 3:57, Chihiro Suzuki at 7:39 and Maeve Sutherland-Case with an empty-netter at 18:41. Jaime Magoffin, Sydnie Miller, Katherine Heard, Rylee Davison, Jayden Calder and Alexie Olivier each had an assist.

Guelph outshot Windsor 18-4 in the third period and 46-24 overall. The Gryphs were scoreless on four power plays while Windsor was 1-for-5.

Sophie Helfenstein had 23 saves for the Gryphs and Kristen Swiatoschik had 43 for the Lancers.
