Gryphons to start season at home against Carleton

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons are to play the exact same teams this year that they played in last year’s OUA football season.

Two differences, though. They’ll be in a different order and different location than last season. That means the teams they played at Alumni Stadium will be played on their home fields and the teams they played away from Guelph they’ll battle at Alumni Stadium this year.

It also means the Gryphs won’t have a regular-season meeting with either the defending Yates Cup champion Western Mustangs (8-0 in the regular season last year) or the Ottawa Gee-Gees (4-4).

Guelph tied for seventh at 3-5.

This year the Gryphs are to host the Carleton Ravens (4-4) in their season opener Aug. 24, McMaster Marauders (2-6) in their likely O-Week Game Sept. 14, Waterloo Warriors (3-5) in what will probably be their Homecoming Game Sept. 28 and Windsor Lancers (6-2) in what could be their Think Pink Game Oct. 5.

It’ll be the second consecutive season the Gryphs will start their season with a home game.

Guelph’s road games have them facing the Varsity Blues (2-6) at Toronto on the Sunday (Sept. 1) of the Labour Day weekend, Laurier Golden Hawks (7-1) at Waterloo Sept. 7, Queen’s Gaels (5-3) at Kingston Sept. 21 and York Lions (0-8) at Toronto on Oct. 11, the Friday of the Thanksgiving weekend.

Both games in Toronto are to start at 7 p.m. while the game in Kingston is to start at 3 p.m. The game at Laurier and all four home games carry 1 p.m. starting times.
