Guelph Gryphons soccer men drop Waterloo again

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons needed a pair of second-half goals to record their second 5-1 victory over the Waterloo Warriors in 48 hours in OUA men’s soccer play Sunday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The Gryphs, who won 5-1 in Waterloo Friday night, led 3-1 at halftime on their own field.

Ambrose Tinmouth scored twice in the first 20 minutes for the Gryphs while Parmpreet Johal added the other first-half goal by the hosts. Osayuki Ibie and Gray Yates tallied in the second half. Damian Truong had a pair of assists while Anthony Ostrun and Juliano Campedelli each had one assist.

Mattheus Mello scored for Waterloo in the 38th minute. Noah Medeiros set up the goal.

The Gryphs outshot Waterloo 10-3 in shots taken and 9-2 in shots on net.

The game featured 10 corner kicks with the Gryphs taking nine of them.

Waterloo was assessed four fouls to two against the Gryphs, but the hosts were shown the yellow card twice, one more time than Waterloo.

York Lions lead the West Division at 3-0-2 and they’re followed by the Laurier Golden Hawks at 3-2-1, McMaster Marauders at 3-2-0, Western Mustangs at 2-0-2, the Gryphs at 2-1-1, Brock Badgers at 2-2-0, Windsor Lancers at 0-1-4, Waterloo at 1-4-0 and Algoma Thunderbirds at 0-4-2.

The Gryphs are to play Brock at St. Catharines Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
