The win leaves the Regals with 26 points and a 13-6-0 record with a game to go in their regular season.

Six Nations Rebels have clinched a first-place finish as they’re unbeaten at 19-0-0 while the Elora Mohawks have secured a runner-up finish as they’re at 16-3-0. Windsor Clippers (14-5-0) are third and St. Catharines Athletics (13-4-1) are fourth and the Regals can finish above both of them in the final standings.

The Regals can actually finish tied with Windsor, but will be placed ahead of the Clippers thanks to a 7-4 win over Windsor at the Victoria Road arena April 30. The Clippers edged the Regals 12-11 in overtime in Windsor May 14 so the Regals will win the tie-breaker due to their win by a three-goal margin.

The Regals need the final two goals of Thursday’s game to nip Owen Sound. They had scored the first four goals of the game and led 4-1 at the end of the first period before Owen Sound shot ahead with all four goals scored in the second.

League scoring leader Marcus Keleher, the only player in the league in triple digits in points following Thursday’s game, scored the winning goal on a power play with 3:13 to go in the third. He had two goals and five assists in the game to lift his seasonal total to 53 goals and 58 assists in 19 games. That’s 13 points ahead of runner-up Brinley Wilson of the Elora Mohawks. Owen Orpana of the Regals is fourth with 47 goals and 47 assists after he had two goals and an assist in Owen Sound.

Single goals for the Regals Thursday were added by Dylan Davey, Brett Vince in his Regals debut since being obtained from the Welland Generals earlier in the week, Charlie Boon and Dallon Evans. Boone had three assists while Evans had two and Davey and Zachary Wright had one apiece.

Carter Moran had a hat trick for Owen Sound while Joal Coghlin, Elliot Thomson, Tyson Downs and Tyson Morrison had a goal apiece. Sean McMahon assisted on five of the goals while Moran and Downs each had two assists and Noah Hemstock, Thomson and Morrison had one each.

Shots on net were not reported.

The Regals went 2-for-7 on their power play while Owen Sound went 3-for-8.

Ty Fox-Trudel was in net for Guelph while Nick Sanderson was in goal for Owen Sound.

In a game that could be a preview of a Western Conference quarter-final playoff series, the Regals are to complete their regular season Monday with a game against St. Catharines at the Victoria Road arena. Game time is 8 p.m.

St. Catharines is to host Owen Sound (8-10-0) Sunday at 5 p.m.

The Regals will play either St. Catharines or Windsor in the conference quarter-finals. The Clippers are to complete their regular season Saturday when they’re to host Elora.
