Guelph Regals pushed out of playoffs by Six Nations

GUELPH – The Guelph Regals’ season came to an end Sunday when they suffered a 10-7 loss to the Six Nations Rebels in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League playoff action at the Victoria Road arena.

The win gave Six Nations a 3-1 victory in the best-of-five Western Conference semifinal.

The Rebels won it with a seven-goal run that started 11:24 into the second period and ended at 7:40 of the third. That scoring spree turned a two-goal lead by the Regals into a five-goal advantage for Six Nations.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period and Six Nations led 7-5 at the end of the second.

Owen Orpana had a hat trick for the Regals while single goals were netted by Brett Vince, Charlie Boon, Ethan Keleher and Marcus Keleher. Boon had three assists while Dylan Goddard, Marcus Keleher and Dallon Evans each had two and goaltender Ty Fox-Trudel, Sam MacDonald and Ethan Keleher each had one.

Hodo (Eric) Martin struck for three goals for Six Nations while Anahilis Doxtador and Macay Jimerson had two apiece and Damonie Thomas, Rakawineh Elijah and Damon Doxtatar had one each. Doxtador assisted on four of the goals while three assists went to Winter Rivera, two each to Connley Joe Squire, Martin and Doxtatar and one each to Richie Albert, Elijah and Kaylem Whales Racette.

The Regals outshot Six Nations 57-54 and went 1-for-7 on their power play while the Rebels were 2-for-6. Guelph also scored two shorthanded goals.

Fox-Trudel made 44 saves in the Guelph net while Wesler Carew had 50 for the Rebels.

Fox-Trudel stands second in the league’s playoff goals-against average at 6.13. He had finished 12th in the regular season at 8.72.

Six Nations advances to play the St. Catharines Athletics in the best-of-five Western Conference final for the Marlene Soulliere Memorial Trophy.

The best-of-five Eastern Conference final for the Colby Hancock Memorial Trophy will pit the Nepean Knights against the Orangeville Northmen.

Dates for the games of the conference finals have not been announced.

Winners advance to the best-of-five OJBLL final.
