Guelph Regals suffer first loss, downed by Owen Sound

The Guelph Regals surrendered the final three goals of the game as they suffered their first loss of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League season as they were downed 7-4 by the Owen Sound North Stars Sunday at the Victoria Road arena.

It was the second three-goal spurt by the North Stars as they’d scored three in a row with the final two goals of the first period and the opening goal of the second.

All the scoring in the game was complete by the end of the second.

Eli Blakeley, Sam Savery, Darcy Rybinski and Caelan Brady scored a goal apiece for the Regals while single assists were awarded to Cannon Schmidt, Logan Reyes, Ben Morton and Graeme Crowder.

Carter Moran, Jonah Kerr and Everest L’Homme Wickens had two goals apiece for Owen Sound while Calvin Stewart added the other goal. Nate Laycock assisted on two of the goals while Moran, Talen Brown, Jordan Cochrane, Stewart and Wes Grant each had one assist.

Owen Sound outshot the Regals 40-37 and had two power-play goals and a shorthanded marker while all of Guelph’s goals were scored at even strength.

Goaltenders Connor Waller of the Regals and Myles Playter of the North Stars each had 33 saves.

The loss leaves the Regals at 2-1-0 with all three games having been played at the Victoria Road arena while Owen Sound improves to 1-1-0.

Next up for the Regals is a game against the Hamilton Bengals (1-1-0) Thursday at 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s Rosedale Arena.
