Guelph Royals rained out for third time in a week

GUELPH – For the third time in a week, the Guelph Royals have had an Intercounty Baseball League game postponed by the weather, mainly rain.

The Royals were to have hosted the London Majors at Hastings Stadium Saturday night, but the match was postponed due to rain. A rescheduled date has not been announced.

They also had a game against the Hamilton Cardinals at Hamilton’s Bernie Arbour Stadium postponed last Sunday afternoon. No rescheduled date has been announced for that game.

Thursday, the Royals were to have played the Barrie Baycats at the Baycats’ home park, Vintage Throne Stadium, but it, too, was postponed due to rain. It’s been rescheduled to July 30 which will give the Royals two trips to Barrie in four days as they’re also to play there July 27.

The Royals did get some game action in on Tuesday at Hastings Stadium. Ironically, it was picking up a game against the Welland Jackfish in the fourth inning from where it was suspended due to rain June 13.

The Royals are scheduled to play three road games this week before hosting the Kitchener Panthers at Hastings Stadium next Saturday (July 15) at 7:30 p.m. They’re to play the Majors at London’s Labatt Park Sunday at 1:05 p.m., the Jackfish at the Welland Stadium Thursday at 7:25 p.m. and the Red Sox at Brantford’s Arnold Anderson Stadium Friday at 8 p.m.

Welland leads the league at 17-6 while Barrie is second at 14-6 and Kitchener and Hamilton are tied for third at 13-9. Toronto Maple Leafs are fifth at 12-10 and they’re followed by London at 7-12, the Royals at 7-13 and Brantford at 2-20.
