Guelph Royals rally to topple Brantford Red Sox

The Guelph Royals scored five runs in the eighth inning to rally for a 6-2 victory over the Brantford Red Sox in Intercounty Baseball League play Friday at Brantford’s Anderson Stadium.

Brantford had shot ahead early with both of its runs in the second inning while the Royals got one of those runs back in the top of the third.

In the eighth, Guelph tied it with one out when, with the bases loaded, a third strike to Jaozef Del Rosario was dropped, allowing the run to score.

Brantford got the second out with a pickoff at second before Ryosuke Ohashi singled in the winning run. The other three runs came in on a single by Arthur Kowara.

The Royals had 10 hits in the match, led by three singles by Garrett Takamatsu. C Morro had two singles while J.D. Williams hit a double and Brando Leroux, Kowara, Del Rosario and Ohashi each had one single.

Kieran Bowles had three singles for Brantford while Nick Burdett, Jeremie Veilleux and Ethan Paulos each added one single.

Hector Yan started and pitched five innings for Guelph while Darren Shred went one inning and Yuki Narita went three and picked up the win. Yan gave up the two earned runs off five hits and three walks and he also had eight strikeouts. Shred walked one and fanned two while Narita yielded a hit and had six strikeouts.

Ricardo Alvarez DeLugo held the Royals to two earned runs off seven hits and two walks in seven innings while Isaiah Ramos relieved and took the loss as he gave up four earned runs off a hit and a walk in 2/3s of an inning. Sam Worthen surrendered two hits while Alvarez DeLugo had three strikeouts and Ramos had one.
