Guelph Royals triple up Brantford Red Sox

BRANTFORD – The Guelph Royals made it two wins in a row in Intercounty Baseball League play Friday as they tripled the Brantford Red Sox 15-5 at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

This one was never in doubt after the second inning as the locals scored runs in each of the first six innings to grab control. They led 9-0 after the fourth inning, 10-2 after the fifth and 13-4 after the sixth. Brantford scored its final run in the eighth while the Royals added two in the ninth.

The Royals clobbered 23 hits in the match with Brandon Leroux getting a double and three singles to drive in three runs and Kyle Kush, making his seasonal debut, connecting for two doubles and two singles. Conner Morro and J.D. Williams each had a double and two singles while Ethan Hammond, Jeff MacLeod and Corey Morro each hitting two singles and Darius Barlas, Tony Hrynkiw and Brendan Keys each had one single.

Yomar Concepcion, Ben Reid and Liam Watt held Brantford to seven hits.

Concepcion started and picked up the win as he yielded four earned runs off five hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings. He had 11 strikeouts. Reid went 2 2/3 innings, surrendering an earned run off two hits and three walks and he had two strikeouts as did Watt in the ninth inning.

Graham Tebbit, batting eighth for the Red Sox, had two doubles and a single while Christian Kuzemka hit two singles. Jon Dziomba had a double while Evan Ryan hit a single.

The Royals got to Brantford starter Danny Howat for nine runs, five earned, off 13 hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. Sean Hood-Tidman followed and yielded four earned runs off three hits and three walks in two innings while Kyle Nash held the Royals scoreless during his stint of 2 1/3 innings despite giving up three hits and a walk. Gabe Bruder pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and surrendered two earned runs off four hits. Bruder had three strikeouts while Howat and Hood-Tidman had two apiece and Nash had one.

The result leaves the Royals at 3-7 and Brantford at 2-9.
