Guelph Silvercreeks new 2018

Guelph Silvercreeks edged by Stratford’s eighth-inning run

A run in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Stratford Nationals to a 7-6 victory over the Guelph Silvercreeks in Inter-County Baseball Association 22U play Thursday at Stratford.

The game was a see-saw affair as the Creeks led 3-1 at the end of the second inning and trailed 5-3 at the end of the fifth. Stratford led by a run after the sixth and Guelph tied it with a run in the top of the eighth.

The Creeks had four hits in the game and they left four on base. Stratford had seven hits and left nine on.

The teams combined to commit 10 errors in the game, six by Stratford.

Aiden Edmunds hit a double for the Creeks while Jackson Groves, Sawyer Whitaker and Alex Wickett each hit a single. Edmunds, Groves and Wickett each had an RBI while Wickett had two stolen bases.

Matt Rumney, Matt Cutten, Zach Martens and Jackson Markwood each pitched two innings for Guelph. Rumney and Markwood each surrendered an earned run. Markwood had three strikeouts while Rumney and Martens each had two and Cutten had one.
