Guelph Silvercreeks fall to Brantford Junior Red Sox

The Guelph Silvercreeks surrendered four runs in the sixth inning as they dropped a 7-5 decision to the Brantford Junior Red Sox Wednesday night at Hastings Stadium.

While both teams connected for nine hits in the game, the hosts committed five errors while Brantford committed one.

The Creeks scored a pair of runs in the first inning and Brantford pulled even with two in the fourth. Guelph went ahead again with three in the fifth before the Junior Red Sox grabbed a lead they wouldn’t relinquish with their sixth-inning output. The visitors added the final run in the ninth.

Aiden Edmunds, Ryan Cutten and MacEwan Cole each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Creeks while Zach Martens and Noah Cantwell each went 1-for-3. Cantwell drove in two runs while Edmunds and Cutten each had one RBI.

Judah McArthur started for the Creeks and he yielded four earned runs off six hits in 5 1/3 innings. All other runs were unearned. Evan O’Driscoll gave up a hit in 2/3 of an inning while Tanner Luker kept Brantford hitless in two innings and Kaylum Cargill yielded two hits in one inning. Luker had five strikeouts while McArthur had four, Cargill had two and O’Driscoll had one.

Next game for the Creeks is set for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. against the Cambridge Cubs at Cambridge’s Dickson Park.
