Guelph Silvercreeks rally to slip by Waterloo

GUELPH – The Guelph Silvercreeks rallied in the eighth inning to edge the Waterloo Tigers 5-4 in Intercounty Baseball Association 22U play Wednesday night at Hastings Stadium.

While Waterloo clouted 10 hits to six for the Creeks, the locals connected with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the scoring in the game. Waterloo had grabbed its first lead of the match with three runs in the top of the eighth.

Alex Camilo went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Creeks with a run, a walk and two stolen bases while Ryan Cutten went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jacob McWhirter smacked a triple and drove in two runs while Owen Vickers had a single and an RBI.

Neither John Filice nor Ryan Kush yielded an earned run in two innings of time on the mound. Kush had five strikeouts.

Brantford Junior Red Sox lead the eight-team league at 5-0-0 while the Creeks are second at 4-1-1. Waterloo is seventh at 0-4-1.

Next game for the Creeks is set for Monday when they’re to play the Hamilton Junior Cardinals (0-1-0) at Hamilton’s Bernie Arbour Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
