Guelph Storm net three in a row to edge Oshawa

GUELPH – Three consecutive goals powered the Guelph Storm to a 3-2 victory over the Oshawa Generals in Ontario Hockey League play Sunday at the Sleeman Centre.

Those three goals, including two by Jett Luchanko that came 69 seconds apart late in the second period, were sandwiched by Oshawa’s opening and closing goals of the game.

Braeden Bowman scored the other goal for the Storm while Vilmer Alriksson and Gavin Grundner each had two assists and Max Nametnikov and Luchanko each had one.

Luca Marrelli and Rasmus Kumpulainen scored power-play goals for Oshawa with Dylan Roobroeck, Matthew Buckley and Calum Ritchie getting one assist apiece.

The Storm outshot the Generals 33-29 in the game. Guelph had a 16-4 advantage in shots in the second period while Oshawa outshot the locals 13-4 in the third.

Both teams had six power plays, Oshawa scoring on two of theirs and Guelph netting one power-play marker.

Damian Slavik had 27 saves for the Storm while former Storm netminder Jacob Oster had 30 saves for Oshawa.

Next up for the Storm is a game against the Kitchener Rangers Tuesday at Kitchener’s Memorial Auditorium complex. Game time is 7 p.m.
