Guelph Storm nets three in a row to nip Niagara

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm struck for three consecutive goals as they edged the Niagara IceDogs 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

The trio of goals was the Storm’s response to Niagara netting the first goal of the game. The IceDogs also fired in the final goal of the game.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and the Storm led 3-1 after the second.

Max Namestnikov, Charlie Paquette and Brayden Hislop had a goal apiece for the Storm while single assists were given to Braeden Bowman, Jake Karabela, Parker Snelgrove, Jett Luchanko and Gavin Grundner.

Ryan Roobroeck and Kevin He scored for Niagara while Artem Frolov, Ethan Czata, Zakary Lavoie and Gavin Bryant each had an assist.

The Storm outshot the IceDogs 35-29 thanks to a 19-6 advantage in the second period. Both teams were scoreless on their power plays, Guelph on three power plays and Niagara on four.

Brayden Gillespie had 27 saves for the Storm while Marcus Vandenberg had 32 for Niagara.

Guelph is fourth in the Western Conference at 11-8-0-0 while Niagara is 10th in the Eastern Conference at 4-10-4-1.

The Storm are to play the Barrie Colts (8th in the Eastern Conference at 9-9-0-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Barrie’s Sadlon Arena.
