Guelph Storm nipped by Steelheads at Sleeman Centre

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm suffered their second consecutive loss when they were edged 3-2 by the Mississauga Steelheads in OHL play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Mississauga scored once in each period while the Storm’s two goals came in the final 11 minutes of the game.

Max Namestnikov and Braeden Bowman each had a goal and an assist for the Storm while other assists were awarded to Michael Buchinger and Jake Karabela.

Chas Sharpe tallied twice for Mississauga while Angus MacDonell scored the other goal. Getting one assist apiece were Adam Zidlicky, Marc Boudreau, Zander Veccia, Jakub Fibigr, Parker Von Richter and Luke Dragusica.

The Storm outshot the Steelheads 37-26 and went 1-for-6 on their power play while Mississauga was 1-for-2.

Brayden Gillespie had 23 saves for Guelph while Jack Ivankovic had 35 for Mississauga.

The result leaves the Storm at 3-2-0-0 and Mississauga at 5-1-0-0.

The Storm are to play the Flint Firebirds (1-4-0-0) Saturday at 7 p.m. at Flint’s Dort Financial Center.
