Guelph Storm slip by Sarnia Sting in overtime

GUELPH – Jett Luchanko struck with 40 seconds left in overtime to lift the Guelph Storm to a 3-2 victory over the Sarnia Sting in Ontario Hockey League play Friday at the Sleeman Centre.

The Sting scored the lone goal of the first period while the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the second.

Braeden Bowman and Max Namestnikov scored two and a half minutes apart in the second period for the Storm. Luchanko assisted on both of those goals while Brody Crane, Bowman, Namestnikov and Jake Karabela each had one assist in the game.

Kai Schwindt and Marko Sikic each had a goal and an assist for Sarnia while Carter Kostuch and Tyson Doucette each had an assist.

All of the regulation-time goals were power-play tallies.

Sarnia outshot Guelph 24-21 and both teams went 2-for-4 on their power plays.

Brayden Gillespie had 22 saves for the Storm while Nick Surzycia had 18 for Sarnia.

London Knights lead the Western Conference at 31-11-0-2 while the Soo Greyhounds are at 30-12-2-1. They’re followed by the Kitchener Rangers at 30-14-2-0, Saginaw Spirit at 30-12-0-1, the Storm at 25-16-2-1, Owen Sound Attack at 21-20-2-1, Erie Otters at 20-19-4-0, Flint Firebirds at 18-23-2-1, Sarnia at 17-25-3-0 and Windsor Spitfires at 13-26-3-1.

The Storm are to play the Attack at Owen Sound’s Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre Sunday at 2 p.m.
