Guelph Storm swap for centre from Oshawa Generals
The Guelph Storm added another piece to what is to be their roster for next year’s Memorial Cup when they sent two players and four draft picks to the Oshawa Generals for veteran centre Owen Griffin.
A 19-year-old from Markham, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound Griffin has played three seasons with the Generals after being their first-round pick, sixth overall, of the 2023 OHL draft. He was also selected in the fifth round, 160th overall, of the 2025 NHL draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In three seasons with the Generals, Griffin had 48 goals, 76 assists and 100 penalty minutes in 189 regular-season games and 17 goals, 17 assists and 15 penalty minutes in 42 playoff games. He’ll be glad for playoff action in 2027 after Oshawa didn’t qualify for postseason play this year.
The Storm sent Mark Pape, Cruz Reznik, a second- and a third-round draft picks in 2027 and a second- and a fourth-round draft pick in 2028 to the Generals.
A 6-foot, 170-pound left winger from Shaker Heights, Ohio, Pape was selected by the Storm in the second round, 25th overall, of last year’s OHL draft. He had three goals, four assists and 24 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Storm in the 2025-26 regular season and also appeared in two playoff games.
A 6-foot-3, 185-pound goaltender from Richmond Hill, Reznik had 22 saves and gave up five goals in the lone regular-season game he played for the Storm in the 2025-26 season, a 6-2 loss the Wolves in Sudbury a week before Christmas. Sudbury scored an empty-netter in the game. Reznik had been picked in the third round, 56th overall, of last year’s OHL draft.
This year’s OHL draft is set for this weekend in Kingston as the league returns to an on-site draft. The first round is to go Friday night with all other rounds slated for Saturday. The Storm is to pick seventh, but has no third- or seventh-round selections due to earlier trades.
The Storm is to host next year’s Canadian Hockey League Memorial Cup championship tournament at the Sleeman Centre.
