Guelph Storm toppled by London, first loss of season

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm suffered their first loss of the OHL season as they were downed 4-1 by the London Knights Saturday at London’s Budweiser Gardens.

The Knights scored in each period for the win.

Charlie Paquette scored midway through the second period for the Storm. Assists on the goal went to Ryan McGuire and Vilmer Alriksson.

That goal came after London’s first two goals and before their final two. The Knights led 1-0 at the end of the first period and 2-1 after the second.

Denver Barkey had two goals and an assist for London while Jackson Edward and Ruslan Gazizov added single goals. Max McCue had two assists while Oliver Bonk, Jacob Julien, William Nicholl, Barkey, Isaiah George and Sam O’Reilly each had one.

Soo Greyhounds lead the Western Conference at 4-1-0-0 and they’re followed by London (3-1-0-1), the Storm (3-1-0-0), Owen Sound Attack (3-1-0-0), Sarnia Sting (3-2-0-0, Kitchener Rangers (3-2-0-0), Saginaw Spirit (2-1-0-0), Windsor Spitfires (1-3-0-0), Erie Otters (0-3-1-0) and Flint Firebirds (0-3-0-0).

Mississauga Steelheads and Barrie Colts are tied atop the Eastern Conference with 3-1-0-0 records while the Sudbury Wolves are at 3-2-0-0. Following are the North Bay Battalion (2-1-1-1), Peterborough Petes (2-1-0-0), Oshawa Generals (2-2-0-0), Ottawa 67’s (1-1-0-0), Brantford Bulldogs (1-2-0-0), Kingston Frontenacs (1-3-0-0) and Niagara IceDogs (0-3-1-0).

The Storm are to host Mississauga Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre and play the Flint Firebirds at Flint’s Dort Financial Center Saturday at 7 p.m.
