Guelph Union dropped by Woodbridge Strikers

VAUGHAN – Guelph Union surrendered five goals in the first half including four in the final 17 minutes of the half as they were thumped 7-0 by the Woodbridge Strikers in League1 Ontario Women’s Premier soccer play Sunday at Vaughan Grove Sports Park.

The seven goals were the most yielded by Union this season.

Two players handled all the scoring for Woodbridge as Jayda Thompson had four goals and Jessica Lisi had a hat trick.

It was Thompson’s second four-goal game of the season and raised her total to 14 goals in 10 games.

For Lisi, it was her second consecutive hat trick and she has 10 goals in nine games this season.

Anika Toth had the clean sheet in net for Woodbridge while Christina Alexander made her third appearance in goal for Union this season. She has a 1-1-1 record.

Union is tied for 14th in the 19-team league with Tecumseh SC. They have identical 4-8-2 records and are two points behind 10th-place Darby FC (4-6-4).

Woodbridge is fifth at 8-2-3.

Union has four games left on its regular-season schedule. It’s to play Hamilton United (3-8-2) at McMaster University Saturday at 4 p.m.

The other three games are games at Centennial Bowl July 12 at 8 p.m. against North Mississauga SC (5-3-4) and July 16 at 5 p.m. against Burlington SC (3-8-1) and a game against Alliance United FC (8-2-4) at Toronto’s Varsity Stadium July 22 at 6 p.m.
