Guelph Union edged by Darby FC

COURTICE – A pair of goals in the first 13 minutes proved to be too much for Guelph Union to rebound from as they were edged 2-1 by Darby FC in League1 Ontario Women’s Premier soccer play at South Courtice Park.

Kate Knafelc connected for Union’s lone goal in the 44th minute. The second half was scoreless.

Lauren Illman in the sixth minute and Emma Da Silva in the 12th minute collected the goals for Darby.

Libby Brenneman was in net for Union while Darby had Alicia Chisholm in goal.

The result allows Darby to leap over Union in the standings. Darby is ninth at 3-3-1 while Union is tied for 10th with Simcoe County with nine points apiece. Simcoe County has a game in hand at 3-3-0 while Union is at 3-4-0.

Union is to play FC London (2-2-1) at London’s Tricar Field Saturday at 5 p.m.
