Guelph Union posts blanking for first win of season

MISSISSAUGA – Guelph Union bounced back from their opening-game loss to blank ProStars FC 3-0 in League1 Ontario Women’s Premier soccer play Saturday night at the Mattamy Sports Park.

Union scored all three of their goals in the second half.

Lauren Bruce struck for the eventual game-winner in the 62nd minute before Victoria Hinchliffe added the second goal 16 minutes later. Sami Falkenstein wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute.

Elizabeth Brenneman had the clean sheet in the Guelph net.

Kaitlyn Alley was in net for the ProStars.

The result leaves Union at 1-1-0 and the ProStars at 0-2-0.

The game was Union’s second of four consecutive road games to start the season. They’re to play Electric City FC (0-1-1) at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Peterborough May 6 and BVB IA Waterloo (1-1-0) at RIM Park in Waterloo May 10.

Union’s home opener against NBC-Ontario (2-0-0) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex May 12 is to be their third game in a week.
