Guelph United breaks out in second half to top Master’s FA

SCARBOROUGH – Guelph United struck for five goals in the second half as they dropped Master’s Futbol Academy 6-0 in League1 Ontario Men’s Premier soccer play Saturday night at Scarborough’s L’Amoreaux Sports Complex.

Highlight of the second-half outburst was a pair of goals a minute apart by Jared Agyemang. Those goals lift Agyemang’s seasonal total to eight goals.

Getting a goal apiece were Damian Truong (second of season), Colin Gander (first), Camilo Vasconcelos (fourth) and Milan Beader (seventh).

Carter Robart was in net and he recorded his sixth shutout of the season.

The win lifts United to third in the 21-team league with a 9-2-3 record. With six games to play in their regular season, United is closing in on locking down a spot in L1O’s top division when it switches to a promotion/relegation system next year.

Blue Devils FC of Oakville lead at 10-1-3 while Milton’s Scrosoppi FC is second at 11-2-0. Electric City FC of Peterborough is fourth at 8-3-3.

United is to play Burlington SC (eighth at 8-4-1) at Burlington’s Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School July 16 at 6 p.m.
