Guelph United falls to Whitby FC in OPL 2

Second-half substitute struck for the game’s only goal as Guelph United was edged 1-0 by Whitby FC Friday night at Whitby’s Telus Dome.

Metaj scored 10 minutes after substituting into the game at halftime.

Owen Schultz was credited with the clean sheet for division-leading Whitby FC.

The loss followed a 3-0 setback to Windsor City FC Sunday in United’s home opener at Centennial Bowl.

Windsor City scored twice in the first half and once in second-half stoppage time.

Ciaran O’Connor, Mateo Nepszy and Amro Hlail scored the goals while Denyz Cuevas had the shutout.

United have a pair of games on their schedule this week as they’re to host Master’s FA in an OPL Cup game Tuesday at 8:45 p.m. at Centennial Bowl and they’re to play Inter Toronto II at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre Field House in Aurora Friday at 6 p.m.
