Guelph United men blank The Borough in L1 Cup match

Guelph United FC made their debut in League1 Ontario L1 Cup men’s soccer play a successful one as they blanked The Borough FC 3-0 Wednesday at the Centennial Bowl.

United scored twice in the first half for the win.

Jared Agyemang had the opening goal five minutes into the game and he also scored 10 minutes into the second half. Anthony Ostrum added the other goal in the 38th minute.

Michael McPherson played in net in the first half for United while Jake Findlay played the second half.

United plays in the top Premier Division while The Borough plays in League 2.

The Borough edged Pickering FC 2-1 in the opening round April 20 to get their berth in the Round of 16 game with the locals. United had a bye in the opening round.

United advances to the quarter-finals where they’re to host Premier Division rivals Simcoe County Rovers. Date for that game has not been set.

The Rovers defeated Darby FC of the Championship Division 2-0 Tuesday.

Next outing for United is to be a league match against the Blue Devils FC Monday at 7 p.m. at the Centennial Bowl.

 

League2 Women

Guelph United was blanked 4-0 by the Blue Devils FC Wednesday at Eastview Park.

The Blue Devils scored one goal in the first half and three in the second for the win.

Molly Palladino had two goals for the Blue Devils while Arianna Rushenas and Abigaile Russell also scored.

Astrid Hancocks had the shutout.
