Hanover’s OT victory forces Pollock final to Game 7

The Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Pollock Division final is going to the max.

The best-of-seven series was forced to its limit Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex when the Hanover Barons nipped the Mount Forest Patriots 4-3 in overtime, the third consecutive game decided in extra time.

Hanover outshot the Patriots 21-8 in the first period on its way to a 2-1 lead. The teams scored a goal apiece in the second period before Mount Forest tied it at 13:26 of the third.

Austin Farlow scored the winner for the Barons with an unassisted goal after 9:55 of overtime.

Seth Huygen scored the first two goals for the Patriots while Will Lewis had the tying marker in the third. Lewis, Brody Leblanc and Huygen each had an assist.

Curtis Arnold, Kyle Maloney and Drayton Howell scored in regulation time for Hanover. Alex McGillivray assisted on two of the goals while Ryan Colquhoun, Payton McIsaac and Patrick Brown each had an assist.

The Barons outshot the Patriots 49-35 in the game and went 2-for-5 on their power play while Mount Forest was scoreless on four power plays.

Marshall Nicholls had 45 saves for the Patriots and Derek Hartley had 32 for Hanover.

Game 7 is set for Monday at 8 p.m. at Hanover’s P and H Centre. The Patriots won two of the previous three games in the series that were played in Hanover, although the teams have scored nine goals apiece there in the series.

Winner of the game will advance to the North Conference final and a match-up with the Carruthers Division champion Alliston Hornets who completed a four-game sweep of the Stayner Siskins with a 5-1 win at Stayner Thursday.
