Heintzner’s third-period goals lift 81’s over Milverton

PALMERSTON – A pair of third-period goals by Kyle Heintzner proved to be the difference in the game as the Minto 81’s outlasted the Milverton Four Wheel Drives 8-6 in Ontario Elite Hockey League play Friday night at the Palmerston and District Community Centre.

The 81’s led 3-1 at the end of the first period and 6-5 after the second.

Heintzner, who had opened the scoring in the game at 10:13 of the first period, netted goals at 3:55 and 19:40 of the third period for a hat trick.

Jordan Delaurier, Owen Torrie, Riley Cribbin, Trent Verbeek and Cole Pellett scored the other goals for Minto while Caleb Warren had three assists. Greg Huszarik, Torrie and Delaurier each had two assists while Heintzner, Blair Buchart and Cribbin had one apiece.

Dennis Dewar and Jeff Fritzley scored twice each for Milverton while single goals were added by Mitch Boertien and Kody Langlois. Chad Swartzentruber assisted on two of the goals while single assists were awarded to Curtis Rawn, goalkeeper Tyler Fassl, Reese Stanley and Colton Quipp.

Shots on net were not recorded. Mark Williams was in goal for Minto while Fassl was in net for Milverton.

The 81’s had a power-play goal on five power plays while Milverton was scoreless on two power plays, but netted a shorthanded goal.

Saugeen Shores Winterhawks lead the league at 3-1-0-0 and are followed by the Creemore Coyotes (2-0-0-0), Seaforth Centenaires (2-0-0-0), the 81’s (2-1-0-0), Erin Outlaws (2-1-0-0), Tavistock Royals (2-2-0-0), Ripley Wolves (1-0-0-2), Durham Thundercats (1-1-0-0), Georgian Bay Applekings (1-3-0-0), Lucknow Lancers (0-1-0-0) and Milverton (0-4-0-0).

The 81’s, who are halfway through their season-opening six-game homestand, are to host Erin Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Palmerston and District Community Centre.
