Hespeler Shamrocks blanked by New Hamburg

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks were stymied by the New Hamburg Firebirds as they were blanked 3-0 in PJHL play Sunday afternoon at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

New Hamburg scored twice in the first period and once in the second for the win.

Owen Fischer, Owen Bruder and Andrew Miele had a goal apiece for New Hamburg while single assists were awarded to Cohen Van Zuilen, Jake Thompson, Aydan Burns, Aiden Reid, Brendan George and Tyler Reid.

Tony Theodoropoulos had 36 saves to get the shutout for the Firebirds while Lucas Hillert had 31 saves for Hespeler.

New Hamburg was scoreless on four power plays while the Shamrocks were scoreless on nine power plays.

Woodstock Navy Vets lead the Doherty Division at a perfect 8-0-0-0 while New Hamburg is second at 6-2-0-0. They’re followed by the Wellesley Applejacks (4-2-0-0), the Shamrocks (3-4-0-0), Tavistock Braves (3-5-0-0), Norwich Merchants (1-5-1-0) and Paris Titans (1-6-1-0).

The Shamrocks are to play at Woodstock Friday at 7:45 p.m. and host Norwich Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
