Hespeler Shamrocks clouted by New Hamburg Firebirds

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded five goals in the first period as the New Hamburg Firebirds clouted their hosts 10-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The Shamrocks prevented being blanked when James Ramani scored with 38 seconds to go in the game. Mathew Styka and Alex Spencer assisted on the goal.

Owen Fischer had a hat trick for New Hamburg while Josh Soulliere added a pair of goals. Getting a goal apiece were Antonio Pasqualino, Ryan Goldberg-Rogers, Anthony Pede, Kaden Eichler and Tyler Reid. Jake Thompson assisted on three of the goals while Owen Bruder and Andrew Miele had two assists apiece. Single assists were awarded to Matt Domm, Pasqualino, Andrew Gear, Riley Benko, Pede, Eichler, Reid and Justin McManus.

The Shamrocks ran into a hot goalie in Tony Theodoropoulos as they outshot the Firebirds 49-24. Hespeler was scoreless on four power plays while New Hamburg went 2-for-7.

Theodoropoulos had 48 saves for New Hamburg while David Hanley had Lucas Hillert had 14 saves for Hespeler.

Woodstock Navy Vets lead the Doherty Division at 15-2-1-0 and are followed by New Hamburg at 14-4-1-0, Tavistock Braves at 9-6-0-1, the Shamrocks at 7-9-0-0, Norwich Merchants at 5-9-2-1, Wellesley Applejacks at 6-10-0-0 and Paris Titans at 3-14-1-0.

The Shamrocks are to play the Braves at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre Friday at 7:30 p.m. and host Woodstock Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
