Hespeler Shamrocks handed setback by Wellesley

ST. CLEMENTS – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded a pair of goals in the second period and they were the difference in the game as the Shamrocks were defeated 3-1 by the Wellesley Applejacks in PJHL play Saturday night at the St. Clements Arena.

Wellesley’s other goal came in the first period while the Shamrocks scored in the third.

Andrew Harris scored on the power play for the Shamrocks while Alex Spencer and Jack Restauri picked up assists.

Logan Crans, Jack Walmsley and Nolan Karger scored for Wellesley. Carson Wickie assisted on two of the goals while single assists were awarded to Isaac Westlake and Owen O’Donnell.

The Applejacks outshot the Shamrocks 34-32 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while Hespeler went 1-for-6.

Both goaltenders, Lucas Hillert of Hespeler and Travis Jansen of Wellesley, made 31 saves.

The result leaves the Shamrocks at 3-3-0-0. They’re to host the New Hamburg Firebirds (5-2-0-0) Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena starting at 3:30 p.m.
