Hespeler Shamrocks rally to grab 2-0 lead in series

TAVISTOCK – The Hespeler Shamrocks struck for four goals in the third period, including two in the final two and a half minutes by Andrew Harris, to edge the Tavistock Braves 6-5 in Provincial Junior Hockey League Doherty Division playoff quarter-final Friday at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre.

The Shamrocks lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.

Tavistock scored the lone goal of the first period and led 3-2 after the second.

Harris finished the game with four goals for the Shamrocks. He has six goals and three assists in the two playoff games after getting 17 goals and 12 assists in 39 regular-season games.

Boden White and Jett Spark added single goals for Hespeler while Liam Nelson had three assists while Jack Restauri and Braeden Tyler had two apiece and Ryan Fraser, Justin George, Mathew Styka, White and Michael Boyle-Ricupero had one each.

Ethan Sharpe had a pair of goals for Tavistock while single goals were recorded by Daniel Tremblay, Trent Davies and Carson Bernhardt. Christian Bergmann and Tyler Brezynskie each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Kaden Brame, Sharpe, Ian Glendinning, Nicholas Hambly and Will Schlotzhauer.

The Braves outshot the Shamrocks 37-28 and went 1-for-6 on their power play while Hespeler’s power play was at 2-for-5.

Lucas Hillert had 32 saves for Hespeler while James Hopper had 22 for Tavistock.

Third game of the series is slated for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
