Hespeler Shamrocks, Tavistock headed for Game 7

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks will need a win Monday to advance in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s playoffs.

The Tavistock Braves connected for five goals in the second period on their way to a 7-1 victory over the Shamrocks in Doherty Division quarter-final play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The result left the best-of-seven series tied at 3-3 with the seventh and deciding game set for Monday at Tavistock.

Sunday, the teams were tied 1-1 after the first period before Tavistock pulled away to lead 6-1 after the second.

Hespeler opened the scoring in the game when Thomas Giffin tallied midway through the first period. Derek Taylor and Jett Spark assisted on the goal.

Ian Glendinning had a pair of goals for Tavistock while Nicolas Thibodeau, Trent Davies, Ethan Sharpe, Stephen Peppas and Jacob Reid-Brant. Sharpe collected three assists while Glendinning, Ryan Suljak, Nicholas Hambly, Reid-Brant, Peppas and Will Schlotzhauer each had an assist.

The Braves outshot the Shamrocks 41-38 and went 1-for-8 on their power play while Hespeler was scoreless on seven power plays.

Lucas Hillert had 23 saves in the first two periods for Hespeler while David Hanley had 11 in the third period. James Hopper had 37 saves in the game for Tavistock.

Game 7 is set for Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre.
