Lewis scores four in a row as Patriots double Kincardine

KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots erupted for four goals in the second period as they doubled the Kincardine Bulldogs 6-3 in a physical Provincial Junior Hockey League game Friday night at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.

The Patriots scored five power-play goals in a game that saw the teams combine to have 22 power plays. Mount Forest went 5-of-10 on its power play while Kincardine went 2-of-12.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period while the Patriots led 5-2 after the second.

Will Lewis of the Patriots scored four consecutive goals from 11:04 of the second period to 12:19 of the third. Brody Leblanc and Matt McLellan added the other goals for Mount Forest while Leblanc and Austin Griffin had three assists apiece. Jaxon Gawel had two and McLellan had one.

Liam Colhoun, Dylan Richardson and Carter Servais scored for Kincardine while Jordan Moulton had two assists and Richardson, Servais, Gavin Downs and Kieran Moore had one apiece.

The Patriots outshot Kincardine 41-36 thanks to a 21-6 advantage in the second period.

Marshall Nicholls had 33 saves in net for Mount Forest while Carter Garvie had 35 for Kincardine.

Hanover Barons lead the Pollock Division at 10-0-0-1 and are followed by Kincardine (8-3-1-1), the Patriots (7-4-1-0), Walkerton Capitals (7-4-1-0), Wingham Ironmen (6-6-1-0), Mitchell Hawks (4-6-2-0), Fergus Whalers (2-6-2-2) and Goderich Flyers (2-9-0-0).

The Patriots are to host Wingham Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
